Flagler's Little Black Stone Nymph is about the best Winter Stonefly nymph that we have found. A great choice for January and February when these bugs are getting ready to hatch and of course, most important are the nymphs even during the hatch. On top of that, it's from Tim Flagler.....what could go wrong?
A pretty basic pattern with black rubber legs up front and in back. Vinyl ribbed body and dubbed thorax with a quill wingcase. What really makes this fly is the profile. He just nailed it! Most patterns that imitate this bug are WAY too robust and don't do the natural justice. This one does.
We sometimes fish these 2 or 3 at a time in tandem and bounce them along the bottom, with a swing at the end of the drift of course.
