About 30 minutes from South Holston River Lodge lies the Watauga River. The Watauga is approximately 60 miles long flowing from Grandfather Mountain in Western North Carolina into the Tennessee Valley. Offering a diverse population of aquatic insects, the Watauga provides solid hatch opportunities during spring, summer and fall. The Mother's Day caddis hatch is an awesome phenomenon to witness...and fish.
As will all of these tailwaters, fishing is dictated by generation schedules set by the Tennessee Valley Authority. The Watauga is best when generation is at a minimum. Long runs and deep pools define the Watauga as an amazing stretch of trout water. We highly recommend the Watauga as an alternate if you would like to experience a different river during your stay at SHRL.
When looking for great lodging, fantastic fly fishing and professional guides....look no further than South Holson River Lodge in East Tennesee. Mad River Outfitters serves as a full booking agent for the lodge and can handle your reservations, questions and tackle requirements.
