Mad River Outfitters Professional Fly Fishing Guides
Mad River Outfitters is proud to offer a complete professional guide service on several local waters for trout, smallmouth, largemouth, steelhead, and carp. We offer a licensed guide service for the Salmon River, Oak Orchard and other waters for Salmon, Steelhead and Brown Trout in New York. Our specialty, Mad River guide trips, offer a unique option with a float trip in our AuSable drift boats. We have also recently worked out an arrangement to fish for Trophy Largemouth Bass on the property of The Wilds in south-central Ohio!
Spending a day one-on-one with one of our guides can literally take years off of your learning curve! Our guide trips are geared towards learning advanced techniques while in hot pursuit of fish.
*Gear can be provided with prior arrangement
* Flies are not included
* guide trips may include lunch, please make prior arrangements with your guide on this.
* Fee based on an eight hour day
* Tipping of guides is appreciated
More Important Info:
* For all guide trips, we require a 50% deposit at the time of booking and the balance is due thirty days prior to the trip.
* All and any cancellations must be made within thirty days. If you need to cancel for any reason, we will make every effort to re-book your spot on that particular day. However, if we are unable to find another client to fill your spot, we will not be able to return your deposit/payment and full payment will be required.
We hope that you understand the necessity for this policy to insure that we can continue to run our trips and classes on a sound financial basis. We realize that emergencies do happen and please know that we will make every effort to re-book your spot, but if we don't, we must uphold this policy.
* We do not make our sole living off of guide trips......therefore.....it does not behoove us to take you fishing when conditions are not right. In other words, we won't fish you if we don't think the fishing will be worthwhile.
In the case of weather/poor fishing cancellations, we will try to re-book you for another day or another time. If we cannot do that to your approval, you will be entitled to a full refund of your deposit/payment.
Trout
We offer guided trips for trout on both the Mad River and the Clearfork River. Our season runs year round and some of our best fishing occurs during the winter months. Float trips are available on the Mad River only.
Smallmouth
Local waters guided include the Olentangy River, Scioto River, Big Darby, Little Darby and our specialty....the Kokosing River. Float trips and kayak trips are available on the Kokosing as well.
Trout/Smallmouth/River Guides
Float Trip- $295.00 for one, $350 for two
AuSable river boats used on the Mad River only. Canoes and Kayaks used on the Kokosing River.
Walk-in Trip- $295.00 for one, $350 for two
Carp
The closest thing to saltwater angling you can find inland! We are proud to offer a complete guide service for Carp in a variety of waters including the waters that are featured in the new "Carpin" video. Join us in June and July aboard the "Fly-N-Carp" for some Ohio flats fishing!- Dates are very limited.

Lake Erie/Ontario Steelhead/Salmon
We offer a guide service for both Erie and Ontario steelhead and salmon. Let our guides show you the ins-and-outs of finding, understanding and catching the multitiude of fish along the Lake Erie/Ontario coastlines. Our season runs from mid-September through late April and sometimes later. We guide in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York and will determine the best location for your trip depending on the time of year, water/weather conditions and your personal preference.
Ohio
Where: Conneaut Creek, Grand River. Rocky River, Chagrin River, Vermilion River
What: All steelhead
When: November through April, Ohio’s strongest runs are definitely in the Spring, peak months are March and April!
PA- Licensed guides
Where: Elk Creek, Walnut Creek, Raccoon Creek, Crooked Creek, Conneaut Creek
What: Steelhead, occaisional salmon
When: mid-September through April, strongest runs are in the Fall and Winter
NY- Licensed guides
Where: Oak Orchard, Johnson’s Creek, Sandy Creek, Chautauqua Creek, Cattaraugas Creek
What: Chinook salmon, Browns and Steelhead
When: mid-September through winter; Chinook and Browns early-steelhead later-browns and salmon wind down near the end of November
Erie/Ontario Salmon/Steelhead Tributary Guides
$295.00 for one, $350.00 for two and $75.00 for each additional angler
* Please note: Due to the new Pennsylvania "Guide License" Fee and required insurance for all guides- along with the recent increases in gasoline prices, we have had to increase our guide prices for 2006. We have not done this in almost 6 years and hate to do it, but in order for our Licensed guides to be able to afford their profession, it was simply necessary. Any trips booked after 2/20/06 will be booked at the new pricing.

This may well be the crowning jewel of our guiding operation. New in 2002, we were selected to help offer very exclusive Bass and warm water fishing on the private lands of The Wilds. We have since filmed a Walker's Cay Chronicles out there and were also selected as one of the top 25 places to fly fish in the US! These trips are announced on November 15th at 10:00 a.m. and usually sell out in hours!
