MRO's Steelhead Guide Service
In our Fall 1998 newsletter, we announced the launch of our "steelhead pro-staff". The staff included guides Larry Rummel, Brian Flechsig, Jerry Darkes and "Dr. Steelhead"- Michael Bennett. Since we have added John Rochus, who is a sales rep in the industry with Jerry, and Steve Wilburn who works in the shop as well as guides. New for 2007 we have added Patrick Robinson, he will be doing some trips for us on the "Western Tribs" here in Ohio. Unfortunately, Michael Bennett passed away on May 9th of 2003, but he will always be on guide trips in spirit.
We are very proud to offer these guides and expertise to our clients. These experienced anglers will be guiding for MRO and keeping us up to date on the latest equipment, flies and techniques as well as fishing conditions throughout the season. Brian Flechsig-Owner and operator of MRO. Brian has become a well known authority on these waters and has proven his "Erie Abilities" over the past few years. He has also been featured in several instructional videos on steelhead fishing and fly tying alongside Jerry Darkes.

Jerry Darkes- You have read his articles in almost every major fly fishing publication out there. We are very proud to have him as a part of our team. Jerry is unquestionably the topauthority on Erie steelhead and one of the true masters of midwestern fly fishing.

Larry Rummel- From Columbus, Ohio but "lives in a van down by the river" during steelhead and salmon season. We have been working with Larry for well over 10 years now and are honored to be able to offer this level of experience to our clients.
There is no guide who knows these waters and these fish on a seasonal basis like Larry. He is also doing all of our New York Salmon and Brown trout trips and guiding. He's great fun to fish with! He is licensed for the states of PA and NY!

John Rochus- John has been working alongside Jerry Darkes as a sales rep in the industry for a few years and has been helping out on schools and such. He will now be doing a fair amount of guiding for us. We are pleased to offer his caliber of guide and person to our clients.

Steve Wilburn- Steve has been fishing and guiding on the Erie/Ontario tribs for well over 10 years now. Many of you recognize Steve from his time spent as shop manager but he now spends his time out on the water actually using the gear instead of just selling it. Steve is a real hoot to fish with and about the only thing he takes seriously in life is fishing.....and that's a good thing.

Patrick Robinson-Patrick has 20+ years of fishing experience that has taken him coast-to-coast in pursuit of various warm and cold water species. The newest member of the MRO guide staff, Patrick has been actively engaged in the pursuit of Lake Erie steelhead on the fly since 2000. He makes his home in the heart of "Steelhead Alley" just east of Cleveland, Ohio and loves any opportunity he gets to be out on the water. Patrick is a gentleman and a scholar and is a true pleasure to spend a day with. We are thrilled to have him aboard!
