Rio Knotless freshwater bass tapered leaders. Clear leader of a stiff copolymer. Thick butt for casting large, wind resistant bass flies. 8 lb is .011" 10lb is .012" and 12lb is .013". These are the best we have found on the market and they match up perfectly with Maxima Clear Tippet material.

Perhaps the most versatile of all Maxima fishing lines, Clear is super soft, yet retains Maxima's tough, high-durability finish for exceptional abraision resistance. Virtually invisible under water, Maxima's Clear meets a wide range of fresh and saltwater fishing situations.

 

Maxima Clear leader material is the stuff that Flip and Lefty STILL use for all of their saltwater leader applications. It is our baseline leader material, we use it for almost anything....fresh or salt.

 

Pay attention when buying fluorocarbon materials. Some are blended with nylon, minimizing the benefits of fluorocarbon: abrasion resistance and low visibility. Pure fluorocarbon Mirage has the highest abrasion resistance of any leader or tippet material. A refractory index .09 different from that of water makes it virtually invisible. With a specific gravity of 1.76, Mirage breaks surface tension quickly, eliminating surface shadow in topwater presentations and sinking quicker than nylon, making it ideal when used for subsurface presentations. Great all-around tippet material for just about anything and especially popular for steelheading.
