We would like to invite you to the epicenter of western fly fishing! Nestled quietly along the banks of one of the world's most famous blue-ribbon trout streams, Kelly Galloup's Slide Inn is located within casting distance of some of the best destinations in the west.

A thirty minute drive from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park and just forty minutes from the Henry's Fork of the Snake, you are also fifteen minutes away from five of the best western lakes: Henry's, Hebgen, Quake, Cliff and Wade. A one to two hour drive from the lodge will get you to virtually every major river system in the west. This is truly the place to be for some serious fly fishing!

The Slide Inn is located on the banks of the Madison River, one of the most famous fly fishing rivers in the world. The lodge's 1,100 feet of river frontage provides some of the finest world-class fly fishing anywhere. During the beautiful days of spring and summer, you can literally step out of your cabin and catch some of the best Rainbow and Brown trout the Madison River has to offer.

Trip SOLD OUT

Fishing - Will be float trips on the Madison and Jefferson with professional fly fishing guides from the Slide Inn. This time of year we can expect good streamer fishing early and late in the day, good to excellent hopper fishing in the afternoons, misc. smaller dry flies and excellent caddis fishing. After the day of fishing it is certainly possible to skip dinner and go fishing! Wednesday will be a "day off" and will allow you to explore some of the incredible features of the area. Most popular is a tourist visit to Yellowstone and we will be happy to help plan your day. Kelly and Brian will also be happy to help if you want to fish in the Park and/or behind the lodge on the Madison.

Tackle - Simple, just bring your big Trout stuff! A full listing of our recommendations will be provided but basically you need to have a 5wt or a 6wt rod with a floating fly line. Those interested in streamer stuff may want to have some of Kelly's type lines. Other than that you need to bring your waders, vest, glasses etc. Flies can be your own, purchased from MRO, Slide Inn or from the guides out on the water. Between MRO and Slide Inn we have you covered!

Meals - Please note that many of the restaurants in the Valley have closed so we will be doing our best as far as food goes. Will probably be a combination of Brian cooking at the lodge and whatever restaurants we can find available at the time. The past few years, we have done dinner at the lodge on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday and going out to Ennis or closer on Tuesday and Friday. Wednesday is of course on your own. Breakfast will be on your own in your room and best to pick up some supplies on the way. Lunch is provided by the guides on the water.

Included in the trips:
• 6 Nights lodging in Slide Inn Cabins
• All inclusive evening meals (except Wednesday, your off day) and lunches on the boats
• Fully guided fishing with our trip host and Kelly's Slide Inn guides.

Not Included in the trips:
• transportation from Bozeman to the lodge.
• Montana Fishing license and tackle and flies
• Yellowstone Park License
• Alcoholic Beverages

Fly Fishing the Madison, Jefferson and Yellowstone.

The Madison River is one of the most unique and scenic blue-ribbon trout streams in the country and one that we are proud to call our home. Its headwaters are formed at the confluence of the Firehole and Gibbon Rivers in Yellowstone National Park after which it flows roughly 15 miles before emptying in Hebgen Lake near the town of West Yellowstone. On the west side of the lake, Hebgen Dam releases water to a short 1.5 mile stretch commonly referred to as between the lakes, that serves up some fantastic opportunities to the wade fishermen before flowing into Quake Lake.

Quake Lake was formed by an Earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale in 1959 which sent an estimated 80 tons of mountain side into the river. A month later the U.S. Army Core of Engineers constructed a natural spillway to ensure erosion and potential failure of the natural dam would be minimized. From the outlet of Quake Lake to the town of Ennis, the river drops nearly 1,500 feet in elevation, and is commonly referred to as the fifty mile riffle. This section is world-renown for its prolific hatches of caddis, mayflies, and stoneflies and offers up some incredible streamer action for those looking to hook into the one. You will find a good mix of Brown and Rainbow Trout that inhabit these waters, as well as the native Mountain Whitefish. There are still a few Yellowstone Cutthroats caught each year, but it is certainly not a common encounter.

The Jefferson is formed at the confluence of the Big Hole and Beaverhead Rivers roughly two miles north of Twin Bridges, Montana. From there it flows 80 miles through a variety of different landscapes before joining the Madison and Gallatin Rivers to form the mighty Missouri near the town of Three Forks.

The Jefferson is often over-shadowed by more well-known rivers in the area such as the Madison, Beaverhead, Big Hole, and Ruby; however, it still can offer up some incredible fishing throughout the year. We love taking people over here for two main reasons. The first is that it receives very little pressure, and the second is the quality and size of the fish. While the trout population in the Jeff is about half of what you’ll find on the Madison, there are some absolute pigs that inhabit this river. We target these fish using streamers and large dry flies, and tend to focus our efforts on the upper 60 miles.

The Yellowstone is the largest free-flowing river in the continental United States, and stretches over 670 miles from its headwaters in the Teton Wilderness before emptying into the Missouri River in North Dakota. This is a large wild river that is best fished from a drift boat, although there are certainly opportunities for the wade angler at lower flows. The Yellowstone provides great fishing with nymphs, dries, and streamers and produces some of the largest brown trout in the state every year.

Kelly and Penny Galloup bought the Slide Inn in March of 2002. They honeymooned on the Madison and always said that they would be back to stay. The purchase of this famous inn has completed that dream. Kelly has been a fly fishing guide for well over 30 years. He started guiding in Michigan at the age of 16. He started his fly shop, The Troutsman, in Traverse City, Michigan, in 1981.

He continued to run the shop until the spring of 2002 when he and his family packed up and headed for Montana. He is an author and lecturer. His books are "Modern Streamers for Trophy Trout" and "Spinners and Cripples". Kelly has been published by virtually every major magazine in the business and is Editor-at-Large for Fly Fisherman magazine. Kelly is also one of the hosts of Fly Fish TV on the Outdoor Life Network.

We've had a long lasting and great friendship with Kelly. He and our founder Brian Flechsig have been close friends for over 30 years now. Due to the popularity of the Slide Inn, Kelly has chosen only a few shops to work with in this capacity and we are honored to be one of them!
